Frequently Asked Questions
Counselling, or therapy as it is commonly known, falls under the umbrella term ‘talking therapies’ and allows people to discuss their problems and any difficult feelings they encounter in a safe, confidential environment. It is a process people seek when they want to change something in their lives, or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth.
Counseling is not advising and a counsellor is not there to sit you down and tell you what to do. Instead, they will encourage you to talk about what’s bothering you to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. They may then look to create a plan of action to either help you reconcile your issues, or help you to find ways of coping.
Everyone goes through some or the other difficulty or difficult time in life. Sometimes we can handle them on our own and sometimes it becomes difficult to find a way or hope through the situation. We all may need counseling sometimes in our life. It does not mean you are weak. It should be looked at as simply as we go to a doctor to repair our fractured leg or get treated for any physical illness.
One should seek professional help for mental health when you experience significant changes in mood, behavior, or thinking patterns that are impacting your daily life, such as: prolonged sadness, excessive anxiety, difficulty sleeping or eating, withdrawal from social activities, significant changes in energy levels, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, inability to cope with stress, or persistent feelings of hopelessness, even if the symptoms seem mild; if these symptoms are causing distress or interfering with your work, relationships, or overall functioning, it’s important to reach out to a mental health professional
No, Psychotherapists/ psychologists are not medical professionals and are not authorized to prescribe medicines. However, there are many psychologists who use Flower remedies ( which does not need any license) along with therapy. We do not use any medication. If need be, the clients are requested to see a Psychiatrist.
We primarily work with youth and young adults. We prefer not to work with children below 6 years of age, however their parents can benefit from our Parenting guidance in many ways.
